In Narda Alvarado’s video performances everydayness turns into a theatrical act where each ‘actor’ is a defined character with individualized eurhythmics. The artist’s set ‘roles’ are interwoven in a sequence of ironic mise-en-scenes which are filled with visual and social humor. The theme of the performance ‘Olive-green’ becomes a certain type of parody on a demonstration: ralliers block up the road, calmly eating olives, and they are confronted by policemen in olive-green uniforms. This paradoxical, almost surreal situation, the discrepancy of the characters’ behavior becomes not only a social criticism but it also forces the viewer to realize the sterotypicality of his perception.
