After the Revolution: Contemporary Artists from Iran, curated by Octavio Zaya, Koldo Mitxelena, San Sebastian, Spain.

At the end of the 20th century this Iranian cinematographer became a genuine discovery for Europeans. Eastern contemplation, a distance maintained by the artist in relation to the object of depiction and a respect for life in all of its manifestations- these are the features that bring Shoja Azari’s works close to the national school of cinema. At the same time the artist turns to the problems of violence, freedom, fear and loneliness, common to all cultures. Waking the viewer up from the ‘trance of everydayness’, Azari manages to arouse sympathy and compassion for his heroes.
