In his most recent works the Bulgarian artist Luchezar Boyadjiev turned to the esthetics of advertising. With a refined irony he combines the garishness and familiarity of advert billboards with religious topics, creating the humorous space of a ‘new religion’, the belief of a commercialized society. An understanding of the advert as a form of modern ‘monumental propaganda’ permits the advert images to grow through the facades of buildings and take up a dominating position in the city space.
