The attention to everyday details in the works of Olga Chernysheva is deprived of the pathos of social or cultural criticism; man is conceived by her as an integral part of life which the artist strives to fix in her works. Chernysheva’s projects give the viewer the feeling of a reality that is ‘alive’. Her gaze is similar to the unhurried contemplation of man, seeking a truly felt contact with the surrounding world. A slight element of the grotesque, a bit of absurdity and rhythmical interruptions in the narration endow it with meanings that were hidden, turning the prosaic into the artistic.
