The Moscow Biennale held a presentation
20 june 2006
The Moscow Biennale held a presentation on Thursday 15 June 2006 at Art 37 Basel, the international art fair held annually in Basel, Switzerland. Following the recent announcement of outline plans for the Biennale’s second edition for 2007, this talk was a much-anticipated event on the fair’s programme.

Joseph Backstein (Commissioner and Curatorial Coordinator) opened the event with an informal introduction to the Moscow Biennale, outlining how the first edition was conceived, the importance of the development for Russia’s culture and international profile and the development of plans for the second edition.
He was then joined by fellow Curator Iara Boubnova who presented the broad structure and themes for next year’s programme and introduced the common concept, “FOOTNOTES”, under which the curators will present their individual projects. A Q&A session followed with members of the audience discussing the Biennale and its content, a debate that continued long into the champagne reception that followed.
The talk was one of the busiest on the Art Lobby programme, attended by over 70 of Art 37 Basel’s visitors. The assembled included curators, art-world professionals, collectors, and artists. Journalists attended from major global publications including The Art Newspaper, Art + Auction, Artnet, Art in America and Art Das Kunst Magazin.
The Moscow Biennale will be announcing further details of their programme later this year and will host a further international event in London this October (tbc).
