project description

Robert Wilson’s completed works really remind one of photographs, but closer inspection reveals Wilson’s highly developed language of minimal movement and production values, as well as the startling clarity and precision of HD video. The project began when Robert Wilson created a video portrait of French theatre actor and film director Patrice Chereau. In it was an image of Mr. Chereau in his entirety, nearly motionless, looking directly at the camera. . The video was exhibited on a large flat screen monitor turned and mounted in a vertical format reminding one of a full-length mirror. The project could be continued only due to the aid of LAB/Rainbow Media, a non-commercial arts channel, who approached Wilson in 2004 to direct an expanded series of video portraits. Working on them, Wilson, having shown his talent in many forms of art , blends various forms from the spheres of painting, design, architecture, dance, theatre, photography, television, cinema and contemporary mass culture. During the Biennale his video project, ‘The Portrait of Princess Caroline’, will be on display.
