The Guardian newspaper called the The Cremaster Cycle: Cremaster 1-5 “the first truly great piece of cinema to be made in a fine art context since Dalí and Buñuel filmed Un Chien Andalou in 1929”. The project was started on in 1994. Its title refers to the male muscle of the same name responsible for lifting and lowering the scrotum (due to cold or emotion). The cycle deals with the development of a living form, from the embryo to the beginning of decay in maturity, which is narrated by means of phantasmagorical images borrowed from biology, history, geography, mythology and mass culture.
