project description

For the first time, this project will be so fully presented to the public in the frameworks of the Movement, Evolution and Art exhibition, its exposition encompassing the period 1916 to 2006. The keynote of the exhibition is Movement, considered by rights one of the mainstream themes in the history of 20th21st century art.
Non-figurative art was one of the earliest styles to productively develop the idea of movement. Artists aspired to create essentially new approaches to modelling space by the dynamic alignment of forms on the picture plane (architectonic possibilities, space-dynamic constructions, Suprematist constructions and colour-dynamic tensions). The 1930s saw the culmination of the cult of physical education, mass sport shows, demonstrations and processions in the Soviet Union. Alexander Samokhvalov painted a symbolic panel, Soviet Physical Culture, for the Soviet pavilion and Vera Mukhinas sculpture Worker and Kolkhoz Woman was fixed up on its roof. Going forward, Soc-Art ironically played upon plastic forms of Soviet art, both in painting and in sculpture and in the 1960s1970s non-representationalists developed their own artistic faith and system.( the artists of the Lianozovo Group and the Sretensky Boulevard group, the idea of movement as biological evolution in Julo Soosters paintings, a kinetic artists group called Dvizhenie (Movement)). In the last few decades, the theme of movement in art has become very important, particularly in new art forms such as installations, objects and video art( Oleg Kulik, Vladimir Dubosarsky and Alexander Vinogradov, Sergey Shekhovtsev).
